Blur

Blur is written for two percussionists performing on vibraphone and xylophone. Each player then chooses whether they would like to play found metals or glass. The piece requires 5 found glass objects and 5 found metal objects. A recording of Blur, performed by Matthew Coley and John Kizilarmut, can be heard on Between the Lines (an album of all the percussion music of Neil Thornock), which is available through HMF Publications. For the recording the artists used glass baking dishes and bowls (with vibraphone), and a variety of metal cans and prepared cowbells (with xylophone). It is up to the performers to determine what found objects work the best for their approach to the piece.
