Ocean Dances
Ryan Elvert’s Ocean Dances is for 5-octave marimba and vibraphone.
“As the horizon gradually turns from black to
light blue, the stars slowly fade into the
background. The sound of waves are heard,
faint white lines appear as they crash into
shore. As daylight shines warmly onto the
aquamarine surface, sea-life is made visible, as
are the people gathered to celebrate
the Ocean’s dances by swimming or
conquering her waves. But, just as every day,
the moon will slowly pull the water back out
from the shores, the light will fade, and the
stars will once again will render the horizon
one with the waters below.” ~ R. Elvert
