Nocturne

A NOCTURNE is typically a lyrical character piece inspired by the night and somewhat melancholy in tone. Although the marimba is often used to portray bright and cheerful musical ideas, it can also express deep sadness, longing, and contemplation. This outpouring of emotion is expressed in limited musical motives developed through repetition over changing accompaniments, perhaps like someone searching for clarity in their thoughts by repeating them into the darkness of the night sky. ~ J.P.
