Nazar (Open Eye)

NAZAR was commissioned by Kyle Hughes for his “Totems” New Music Project. I am forever grateful to Kyle for his willing work with young, learning composers such as myself. This piece began as a marimba solo – but my leanings toward popular music and singing overtook the project early on. I love the idea that our instruments can not only serve as implements of absolute art, but also of real communications of human emotion. Therefore, this piece requires the marimbist to be willing to use their voice and soul to communicate the message within the lyrics.
