Catch Your Breath

Catch Your Breath was originally written in 2008 for SI5’s (Sonic Inertia) “Torque” project. Berkhout composed a full-evening’s length of music for a quintet of dulcimer, clarinet, vibraphone, cello, and piano to perform in bars. It was a fusion of styles from cinematic to jazz to minimal to virtuosic classical and was great on the concert stage as well. After SI5 disbanded Berkhout reworked Catch Your Breath for marimba duo and later symphony orchestra. The marimba duo version was premiered by Matthew Coley and Cory Hills in 2012.
